It all starts with Data...

No matter what the process or project, you must start with the discovery process. It is absolutely critical that a project start and end with data and the collection and analysis of that data is essential to getting done what needs to be accomplished.

Before collecting data, you must begin with a highly focused objective in mind. There are many common questions that are asked prior to data collection such as:

• What is the data going to be used for?
• Why are we collecting the data?
• How is the data going to be used?
• Who will see the data?
• How reliable is the data?

Each of these questions provides excellent guidance for data collection, but do they support a significant change in the strategic focus of the school? Do the objectives support the overall goals within the school?
