Working with Children & Families at Risk

Real techniques in working with Children and Families at Risk. Participants will leave with no less than 8 specific things they can do with children that are researched and advance achievement. Geared for Out-of-School Time programs, these ideas can be used both in and out of school with a variety of ages.

Participants will be able to:
  • Comprehend the research base that supports the value of working with children and families within the school setting to mitigate the at-risk factors present
  • Accurately and quickly be able to identify elements of risk within children’s lives
  • Provide effective intervention strategies that can be used within the out-of- school time setting with both children and families
  • Demonstrate at least 8 specific techniques that can be effectively used with either children or families both in school and in Out of School Time

Every school in the nation has students and families that live with factors of risk (many significant) that distract them from the importance of the education process. Teachers are aware that this is the case, but in many situations there are few resources avaliable to help teachers, administrators, councelors and other professionals know effective tools that can be used to help children and families from high risk situations. Veteran teacher Travis A. Frederickson and 21st CCLC program evaluator Jack Hatch will walk with you through the life of a child/family at risk and then reveal some of the most powerful tools that can be used to help a child/family transition from Risk to Resilient!

Offered in both a Half & Full day format.
